The OSI Group has expanded its Toledo, Spain operation in order to produce higher amounts of chicken products. The company which was established in 1909 has meat processing plants in various parts of the world and Spain is one of them. The expansion includes a new line of products that will increase annual chicken production in the facility to 24,000 tonnes which is double what was previously produced.
With the expansion, OSI Group subsidiary in Spain will be able to produce 45, 000 tonnes in Pork, beef and chicken products. The expansion also made it possible for the company to hire 20 more people to work in it. The company hired a new production manager who was expected to be skilled and capable of leading the OSI Group team in Spain to develop a new product and work on making the already existing products better.
The person was also expected to show dedication in executing his or her duties within the company. Speaking on the expansion the CEO of the OSI Group Subsidiary Jose Maria del Rio pointed out that the expansion was necessitated by an increase in demand for chicken products in Portugal and Spain which the company supplies. Demand for chicken products has been on a 6% yearly increase if one considers the past ten years. The jump in demand to 8% in the last three years was the main motivation for the company to work on the expansion.
Speaking about the expansion OSI Group COO David McDonald said that it has made it possible to increase the number of products the company offers. The new production line made it necessary to put a new building to house it. The 22, 600 feet building ensures that the company deals with the changing trends in employee and customer needs. It houses walk-in refrigeration, storage for supplies, production hall as well as a lounge for employees.
